![]() The name alone conjures up images of classic wooden boats, waving flags, and unforgettable memories made on the waves. The varnished mahogany runabouts of yesteryear, and their modern sister-ships of today, all share the same design ethos, gorgeous lines, high quality, and style. ![]() Since 1874, Chris-Craft has built boats of immense beauty that evoke an emotion and passion in all who see them. Turn the garden hose on and see how bad the bottom leaks.:eek1 The hose almost couldn't keep up to these gaping seams.Īfter a couple hours it did slow down and today just a few drips here and there.Chris-Craft Boats: An American Classic Author Nick Voulgaris III, Contributions by Chris-Craft Boats, Foreword by Ralph LaurenĬelebrate all that is quintessentially American about being on the water in the world’s most beloved boat. Let's see what can be done with the shrunken planking. Hope he didn't need to get in there quick, the lids were nutted on. Removed these 2 lovely boxes from the engine compartment, one was a battery box and the other is where the PO stored the anchor and dock lines. I hate when the wrong sized clamps are used. Ended up removing a bunch of pipe and garden hose. Someone tried to fabricate a closed loop recirculator. Yesterday I decided to see what the plumbing mess was all about. After about 10 second the engine fired!!! Ran fairly well considering the gas is somewhere around 15 years old. So I figured, what the hell turn on the ignition and so what happens. I installed a battery and cranked the engine to make sure the oil pressure guage moved. I'm confident my cost for the materials and services, will be around $7500. If I were doing this for a customer, the estimate would be about $25k not including the engine work. Modern power? Never!! Thinking about using "built" Ford V8-60. 60 hp is a little lacking for these boats, 1 or 2 people are okay but the boat will struggle with anymore than that, so I may repower it. It has a few oil leaks that need attention also. Amp, I need to look into the wiring and generator to figure that out, but the guage does need to be restored anyway.Įngine, it runs, but need to check the compression. The instument panel has been restored but the amp and tach are not working. Upholstery is in excellent conditon but it's not done correctly. The transom planking will need replacing because of splits from being exposed to the elements. ![]() The bottom has some broken fasteners, a broken chine and and the keel is split where the rudder goes through. ![]() The stern deck has some framing issues due the lifting eye being over tightened. The hull is in remakable condition except for a couple issues. Wrong!Įventually I'll go through the whole thing, stem to stern as they say, and bring it back to showroom condition. We sold it at the time I needed money to build a new shop and figured the smallest of the fleet would have been the one least missed. I had a 1939 15.5' CC a bunch of years ago and always regretted selling it.
